2011-12-08 The International Eilat Bird Festival 2012
The
6th Festival will take place from March 25th-April 1st 2012
Organized
by the Israel Ornithological
Center of the SPNI, the spring
migration festival brings together birders from the world over for an
unforgettable week during the peak of spring migration in southern Israel.
Visitors are free to choose from several free guided daily tours to the best
sites and enjoy an interesting evening program of lectures and presentations.
More than 220 species were seen by festival visitors during the 2011
festival week. These included specialties like Black bush Robin, Thick-billed,
Temminck's, Bimaculated and Bar-tailed Larks and 9 species of Sylvia Warblers
including 2 Menetrie's.
Hume's Owls, Pharaoh Eagle Owls and Nubian Nightjars put on
a show and Macqueen's Bustards, 5 species of Sandgrouse and Coursers
enlightened the dozens of birders on our tours. The best thing about the week
was the assembly of birders from 14 nationalities.
Birdwatching
Besides the free daily tours several excellent
Specialty tours will be on offer during the week, these include full day
excursions to the Nizzana area and the Dead Sea,
and an incredible night tour for both Nubian Nightjar and Hume's Tawny Owl.
