Depart for Rooi Els via Gordon?s Bay, Western Cape on the scenically spectacular coastal road. Bird the area Cape Rock-jumper, Ground Woodpecker, Cape Rock Thrush, Jackal Buzzard and Cape Siskin.

Depart for Stoney Point, Western Cape, the African Penguin colony which is smaller than the Boulders African Penguin colony and is a good place to see African Penguin,Bank, Cape, Crowned and White-breasted Cormorant?s.

Depart for Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, on the slopes of the Kogelberg mountain range, Betty?s Bay, Western Cape. South Africa. Harold Porter botanical gardens offers great Fynbos and forest birding. Specials include Cape Siskin, Black Saw-wing, Yellow Bishop, Brimstone Canary, Southern Double-collared Sunbird and Victorin?s Warbler.

Depart for Napier, Overberg, Western Cape, South Africa. Lunch in Napier.

Depart for De Mond Nature Reserve IBA via Bredarsdorp. This great reserve has a Damara Tern breeding Colony and specials such as Acacia Pied Barbet, Fiscal Flycatcher and Southern Tchagra.

Depart for Mudlark River Front Lodge on the Breede River, Overberg Western Cape, via Bredarsdorp.

 

20:00

Dinner at Mudlark River Front Lodge.

Bird around lodge for Barn Owl, Spotted Eagle Owl, Rufous-cheeked, Fiery-necked and Freckled Nightjars.

Depart for De Hoop Nature IBA

This beautiful Fynbos and Marine Reserve are situated in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, near the southern tip of Africa and covers an area of 36 000ha.

The large De Hoop vlei/wetland is famous for its variety and large numbers of migratory waders and water birds.  More than 260 species have been recorded on the reserve and the only remaining Western Cape breeding colony of the rare Cape vulture occurs at Potberg on the north eastern boundary of the reserve.

 

Birdspecials include Cape Vulture, Hottentot Buttonquail, Southern Tchagra, Knysna Woodpecker, Black Harrier and Agulhas Lark.

 

Mammals

The reserve has 86 mammal species, most notably the rare Bontebok

and Cape Mountain Zebra.

The marine reserve has at least 250 fish and Southern Right Whales calve and mate in the sheltered bays of De Hoop each year between May

and December.

 

Vegetation

De Hoop reserve is the largest conserved area for the lowland Fynbos and has an estimated 1500 plant species.

? 108 species are rare or threatened

? 34 species occur only on De Hoop Nature Reserve.

? 14 species were recently discovered and are still to be described.
