The Barn Owl – Tyto alba – has the keenest sense of hearing.

This is the most widely distributed owl and one of the most widespread of all birds. It is a medium sized owl, with pale/whitish underparts, pale brown patches in upperparts and a white shaped facial disc.

Barn Owls can catch and eat up to 1,000 mice each year. Great news in South Africa - more and more farmers are trying to attract barn owls to help control rodent populations in the Vineyards of the Western Cape and in Agricultural lands in South Africa. A common resident in Southern Africa.
