An Amazing Little Karoo Trip.
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is situtated, north of route 62, between the villages of Montagu and Barrydale in the little Karoo of South Africa. Sanbona covers an area of roughly 540 square kilometers and is divided by the
spectacular Warmwatersberg mountain range with its majestic geological
formations and diverse vegetation.
Bird watching
Some varied and interesting species: -
Fairy Flycatcher – Stenostira scita
– Layard’s Tit-babbler – Parisoma layardi
– Pririt Batis – Batis pririt – in
the Dry Acacia riverbeds, Karoo Korhaan – Eupodotis
vigorsii – Karoo Lark – Calendulauda albescens
– in the succulent karoo vegetation and Southern Black Korhaan – Afrotis afra
– Black Harrier – Circus maurus – in
the fynbos / renostersveld.

Oryx / Gemsbok – Oryx gazelle, Springbok
– Antidorcas marsupialis, Plains Zebra
– Equus burchelli seen on drive through
the fynbos / renosterveld southern region of the reserve.
Trees
Sweet Thorn - Acacia karroo, Wild Olive - olea europaea sp africana, Common Karee - Rhus Lancea.
Vegetation
Fynbos, Montagu Shale Renosterveld, Quartz Vygieveld, Succulent Karoo and Thicket.
