The Tagus Estuary, one of Europe's largest estuaries, is about 20 minutes from the airport. Large numbers of White Storks, Greater Flamingo, Glossy Ibis, Black-winged Stilts and Spoonbills.

This large wetland is one of the most important in Europe and can easily provide 100 species of bird in a day.
