2011-06-06 BirdLife launches new website section for World Enviornment Day
To celebrate World Environment Day, BirdLife has launched a new section on its website focusing on people,
showcasing the work of the BirdLife Partnership in bringing communities
together to safeguard birds and biodiversity, whilst ensuring a
sustainable and equitable future for people.
BirdLife is the largest conservation network of its kind, uniting 117
national conservation organisations in 116 countries and territories.
Today, the Partnership has over 2.5 million members and a further 10
million supporters worldwide—a large and growing global constituency who
care for birds and the wild places they inhabit.
World Environment Day has been celebrated annually since 1972.
Central to the day’s philosophy is the belief that people, from all
walks of life, can come together and be the catalyst for change.
Birdlife International shares this ethos.
This year’s World Environment Day is hosted by India and the theme is
‘Forests-Nature At Your Service’. For more detailed information on
forest birds and the work that BirdLife Partners are doing to conserve
and restore degraded forest ecosystems, please see the State of the
world’s birds - spotlight on forests. |
